Maldives has called on the United Nations to take resolute action against the mass atrocities being committed by Israel against the Palestinians.

Speaking at the Tenth Emergency Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly held to address the illegal Israel actions in occupied Palestine Territory, the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to UN Thilmeeza Hussain strongly condemned the attacks from Israel.

She noted that the violence that the world is witnessing today is not the result of a conflict that started in October this year, but rather a continuation of decades of oppression of the Palestinian people by Israel that has caused numerous deaths and losses over generations.

Thilmeeza also noted that half of the Palestinian population is made up of about one million children, a third of whom are under the age of ten.

"Accepting the loss of these young lives as mere 'collateral damage' is a severe breach of universally accepted ethical principles and international law, and it diminishes the moral integrity of any society that chooses to tolerate it," she stated.

Thilmeeza went on to reiterate that the Government of Maldives unequivocally condemns the attacks on hospitals, residential areas, places of worship and humanitarian workers. She called on the UN General Assembly to take resolute action to end mass forced displacement in Gaza and to bring an end to the violence against civilians.

Maldives is also among the co-sponsors of Monday's UNGA resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire and unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
