India's Minister of External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has today visited the ThilaMale' Bridge to observe its progress.
Jaishankar shared photos of the visit on social media X. He was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer and Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib.
Jaishankar highlighted that the project would contribute towards advancing connectivity and strengthening the economy of Maldives.
As per the most recent statements from the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the bridge was 29 percent complete by last November, with it having reached 40 percent completion by the present day.
The ThilaMale' Bridge is a USD 500 million project, which is being undertaken through a USD 400 million Line of Credit extended by India's EXIM Bank, and USD 100 million granted by the Indian government.
The Male' - ViliMale' section of the bridge is slated for completion by February next year, with the entire project expected to reach completion in late 2026.
