Urbanco announced today the successful completion of the inaugural phase of Thilafushi's second development stage.

Urbanco has announced the completion of reclamation of 'Area B', spanning 39.6 hectares within Thilafushi Phase II, with preparations already initiated for the reclamation of 'Area A'.

Thilafushi's second phase land acquisition is divided into three distinct areas: A, B, and C. The acquisition of Area A is slated for completion by February of the following year, covering 71.5 hectares, as confirmed by Urbanco.

The comprehensive reclamation effort for Thilafushi's second phase will ultimately cover 151 hectares, though specific project costs have not been disclosed by Urbanco.

The second phase of Thilafushi's reclamation, earmarked for development as an industrial hub in the Malé region, commenced in March.

China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), responsible for the Sinamalé Bridge's maintenance, has been entrusted with the task of reclaiming Thilafushi. An agreement was formally signed with CHEC on December 15 the previous year, with an expected two-year timeline for completion.

CHEC operates as a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the entity responsible for constructing the Sinamalé Bridge. The company was entrusted with the task of establishing the water supply system connecting Malé and Hulhumalé via the bridge.

The government previously highlighted that the Thilafushi development initiative aligns with the broader Development Plan of the Malé Region and the Thilamalé Bridge Project.
