Two people were arrested over coercing MVR 16,000 from a man after taking him to a house in Male'.

He was taken to the location after promising him he would be able to get married there. A Maldivian man and a woman were arrested in connection to this seizure.

Criminal Court had remanded them for 15 days on Sunday.

According to the victim, he was taken to the location after promising him he would be getting married. Referring to the statement the victim had given to the police, the court orders says the victim's bank card was taken from him after he was threatened with a knife. MVR 16,000 was stolen using the card.

The court order additionally said there is enough evidence to press charges against the arrested couple to some degree.

People have been arrested previously as well over coercing money from them after taking them to secondary locations.
