Maldives Police Service, on Saturday, revealed the identities of the four individuals arrested over the attempted robbery in front of the Bank of Ceylon (BOC).

The four individuals Ahmed Ameer, Hussain Abdul Majeed, Mohamed Mus'ab Zubair and Abdulla Rasheed, aged 20, 22, 23 and 27, respectively, attempted to snatch a box containing MVR 4.2 million from the tobacco shop 'ROOT' owned by Consumer Goods Trading Pvt Ltd (CGT).

The attempted snatch-and-grab took place on October 25, when four individuals, on two motorcycles had followed the vehicle carrying the funds meant to be deposited at the bank.

Although the two passengers tried to overpower ROOT's employees as they offloaded the box, the attempt was foiled by BOC's security guard, who was quick to latch onto the container before they could escape. An onlooker is seen chasing the suspects away.

While three of the four youth were wearing helmets to conceal their identities, CCTV footage could clearly identify the license plates on the vehicles.

In order to recognize the security guard for his involvement in curbing the crime, ROOT's Managing Director Abdulla Rafeeu presented Mohamed Hassan Manik, the security guard hired by the firm 'Absolute Security And Advance Protection', with a cash prize of MVR 50,000 at a special ceremony on Saturday.

The company further awarded a prize of MVR 10,000 to the three employees that escorted the funds, including Mariyam Jeelaa, labourer Jalaaluddin and driver Baadhshaah.
