MSA had cancelled the 'Gaamaadhookolhu' tournament of the Maldives Surf League scheduled to take place in K.Himmafushi this year and relocated the event to K.Thulusdhoo under the name, 'Randhaa Raalhugandu".
Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) has decided to cancel the 'Gaamaadhookolhu' tournament of the Maldives Surf League scheduled to be held in Kaafu atoll Himmafushi this year and relocated the event to Kaafu atoll Thulusdhoo.
MSA had previously slated the Gaamaadhookolhu tournament from June 12 through June 15.
The MSA had similarly cancelled a tournament of last year league as well before relocating it to Thuludhoo. This tournament was the 'Huraakolhu Raalhugandu' tournament scheduled to held in Raa atoll Kinolhas.
The 'Gaamaadhookolhu' tournament of this year's league will now be held in Thulusdhoo under the name 'Randhaa Raalhugandu".
The MSA introduced four events for this year's national surfing league, one less than the preceding year. Within this, the first tournament of the league, 'Kalhegalekodaa' was successfully held in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll Gadhdhoo from February 14 to 16 earlier this year.
This tournament saw Najaah Mohamed (Kabo) triumph the Men’s Open while Kayan Abdulla Areef (Kaiputty), who was the junior league champion in 2023 had secured the Junior U18 Boys’ championship.
The next event of the league this year is the 'Muleekolhu Raalhugandu' event which will be held in Meemu atoll Muli from July 31 to August 3. Afterwards, the concluding event of this Surfing League, 'Rannamaari Challenge' will be held in the Male' City Raalhugandu area from October 27 through November 2.
While the relocated event, Randhaa Raalhugandu held in Thulusdhoo was initially scheduled from August 17 to August 24, it will take place after the Asian Surfing Championships from August 27 through 30.
This year's tournament marks the third year since MSA had introduced a National Surfing League in the country. The first league held in 2022 and the second held last year had both featured five tournaments unlike this year's tournament, which will feature four events.
