The Maldives presented a special welcome to its first tourist arrivals on Tuesday to celebrate this year’s World Tourism Day.

The passengers of Korean Air, which landed 6:50 a.m., and of the Emirates flight which arrived at 7:30 a.m. were warmly greeted at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA)’s Arrival Hall by the staff of Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL), Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and the tourism ministry.

The visitors were all presented with small souvenirs illustrating the natural beauty of the Maldives. The welcoming celebration also consisted of cultural dances and songs performed in the Arrival Hall.

The Maldives also commenced a conference on improving tourism on Tuesday, which is proceeding alongside the largest forum on tourism promotion yet hosted in the country. Top officials of the tourism sector and international veterans are participating in this conference which will be held over the course of two days.

Tourism in the Maldives is once more on the rise after a recent decline. However, the industry still faces the potential dangers of decreasing tourist influx from major markets such as China.
