A record number of students who completed the O' Level examinations last year got onto the top 10.

Out of the 5,955 students who took the exams in June/July, over 700 students were included in the top 10.

This is the highest number of students in the O' Level top 10 to date, which began 30 years ago.

Previously, there were about 400-600 students from the Maldives, securing their place in the O' level top 10.

A school principal, said that due to Covid-19, the grading criteria for some subjects are more lenient compared to other years. He said that this is a good opportunity for student to double down their efforts to achieve top results in their exams.

The students were first scheduled to undergo O'Level in November 2020. However, it was prolonged due to the pandemic. The awarding ceremony for top 10 achievers will be held from 24th to 25th of August.

A media official at the Education Ministry said that the awarding ceremony for the top 10 students was scheduled to be held within the span of two nights due to the large number of high achievers. Awards will be presented to top achieving O' Level and A Level students at the function.

It is also notable that more than 300 students achieved the top 10 from A levels as well.
