Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure on Thursday awarded the development of a harbour in Fulhadhoo, Baa Atoll, to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for MVR 24 million.

The agreement for the project was signed by Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and MTCC's Chief Financial Officer Mohamed Hilmy.

Speaking at the function, Dr. Muizzu shared that the project cost is borne by the state budget but also includes a tourism-related CSR component. As per the agreement, harbour development is to be completed within eight months.

The minister highlighted the marine transportation difficulties faced by the citizens of Fulhadhoo and stated that the government is committed to solving such issues even though the island hosts a comparatively small population.

Dr. Mohamed Shainee, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture who hails from Fulhadhoo, also spoke at the function and noted that fisheries and local tourism would be boosted by the project.
