President Yameen makes multiple pledges to Thimarafushi

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom made multiple pledges to the people of Thimarafushi, Thaa Atoll, on Monday, stressing the importance of development to the people of the island.

While speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the island's water supply system, Yameen highlighted the convenience that would be experienced by the people of Thimarafushi with the tarring of the 1km road accessing the island to the atoll's regional airport, vowing that he would commence and complete the project.

"Equipment required for construction of roads are already available and are being used in other projects. As soon as the other projects are completed, we will bring the equipment to this island and begin construction," said President Yameen.

Under his pledge to provide ATM services to islands with a minimum population of 1,500 and establish a branch of Bank of Maldives (BML) in all islands with a minimum population of 2,500. the president promised the citizens of Thimarafushi a BML branch, as their population meets the requirement.

Addressing the specifics of the housing issue, President Yameen revealed that he will start to issue land to the people in accordance with the plans of the Island Council.

Pledges made to the people of Thimarafushi:

- The tarring of all roads of Thimarafushi will be brought to completion.

- The opening of a BML branch within the next five years.

- The issuing of land to the people of Thimarafushi.

President Yameen expressed his contentment upon the opposition coalition vowing to complete the already implemented projects by the current government, noting that only will have the best interest to bring these projects to completion.

Furthermore, he highlighted the shortcomings of the previous government, stating that the people of Maldives await the development only of the current government's regime.

"People of the Maldives are well aware that the manifesto of the opposition coalition is not suited for this country. The opposition recognizes this as well," revealed President Yameen.
