A Maldivian fishing boat went adrift after catching fire late Tuesday and into Wednesday afternoon, reported Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)’s Coast Guard.
MNDF cited the boat’s owner that there had been ten people on board when the boat set out, out of whom one is local and the other nine are Indonesians. The crew had gone missing on Wednesday but later was reported to have been found, though the Coast Guard did not provide details on where they had been.
The boat was spotted adrift and smoking, 323 nautical miles west of Gaafu Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo Island, which is 43 nautical miles out of Maldivian borders.
According to MNDF, part of the boat was submerged and still smoking at that time.
