A Maldivian man and his three year old child were killed in an accident in neighbouring Sri Lanka.

The accident took place last Sunday morning, killing Hassan Ali, 29, of Haa Dhaal atoll Kulhudhuffushi island and his three year old daughter. Hassan and his family live in Sri Lanka.

According to the deceased’s younger brother Hussain Ali, the accident occurred while the family was out driving in their pickup. Hussain said that his brother and niece had passed away after arriving at the hospital. Meanwhile, any possible injuries sustained by the rest of his family members are unclear.

“We received the news Sunday afternoon from my sister-in-law (Hassan Ali’s wife). But under the circumstances, we couldn’t get much detail,” he said, adding that he has not been able to connect Hassan Ali’s wife afterwards.

Hassan Ali had emigrated to Sri Lanka with his family two years ago, where had been employed.

He has one other daughter.

Meanwhile, the Maldivian embassy in Sri Lanka said they have not received word of such an accident yet and are currently looking into the case.
