2 major development projects contracted to MTCC

The government, on Thursday, contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) with two major projects worth MVR 26.5 million.

The contracts were awarded to the company in a ceremony held at Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure. The ministry's Director General Shana Farooq signed on behalf of the government while MTCC was represented by CEO Hassan Shah.

Planning Ministry allocated a total of MVR 18.5 million from the state budget for the harbour expansion project of Felidhoo, Vaavu Atoll. According to the ministry, the coastal protection project of Rasdhoo, Alif Alif Atoll, is funded by MVR 7.9 million out of the free aid granted by the Indian government.

Director General Shana announced that Felidhoo's harbour expansion project comprises of the construction of an outer seawall spanning 61 meters, an inner seawall of 126 meters and revetments of 180 meters.

MTCC is granted a period of seven months to complete this project.

Rasdhoo's coastal protection project will protect an area of 200 meters within a three-month period.

In addition, Planning Ministry tasked MTCC with establishing water and sewerage systems on four islands this Wednesday. The total budget allocated for these projects are MVR 162 million.
