A 17-year-old expatriate looking for work in Maldives received aid from locals.

A few days prior, a video detailing the situation that befell Bangladeshi national was widely circulated on social media. Per the content, he was brought to Maldives to work for a guesthouse, but the Bangladeshi contacts that encouraged him to come to the country proceeded to switch their phones off upon the young man's arrival, leaving him with nowhere to go.

In the video, the youth declared that there was no work for him and that he had to roam the streets. He also revealed that he sold his phone to pay for the guesthouse he was staying in.

The story was recorded and publicized by a Maldivian.

Once the footage went viral, a group of young individuals gifted him with money and a new phone.

According to Midhuath Saudh, the individual who posted the video, the teen wished to hide the money for fear that other Bangladeshis would try to steal it from him. Upon being asked what he would do with the money, he stated that he planned to send it to his mother, who was in Bangladesh.

Midhuath said that the youth group was now raising funds to help him return to his country.
