President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said on Thursday that they will end the belief that the construction of the causeway between Thaa atoll Kinbidhoo and Veymandoo is an illusion, and make it a reality.

Speaking in Kinbidhoo today during his visit to Thaa Atoll that started on Tuesday, the President said that the transportation system plays an important role in the development process and it is important to have access to travel from one island to another in addition to between atolls.

The President said that priority would be given to connecting the country's islands by air and bridges.

The President has also assured that the two islands will be considered as one once the work to connect the island with Veymandoo through a causeway is completed.

“We will end the belief the causeway is an illusion, and make it a reality, God be willing,” he said.

The construction of a causeway between the two islands was a presidential promise of President Muizzu. He said that he was not talking about these matters when he was campaigning just to seek votes, but rather he talked about it because he believes it can be achieved.

In addition to the causeway at Veymandoo-Kinbidhoo, Muizzu also pledged to develop a causeway between Madifushi-Dhiyamigil in Thaa atoll as well. Work on both causeways will also be completed, he said today.

He said the rural projects will be executed in an organized manner and everything will be finalised. He said the top priority would be the causeways and more projects would be decided in a systematic manner.

Since Veymandoo is the administrative capital in Thaa atoll, most of the services are also established in Veymandoo. The project to connect Veymandoo and Kinbidhoo has often been promised by recent governments to make it easier to travel from one island to another, and to make it easier to access services as well.

The distance between Veymandoo and Kinbidhoo, both in the same reef, is 4.6 km. The former administration had taken over the inhibited island Elaa between the islands.
