President Dr Mohamed Muizzu told residents of Thaa Atoll Buruni that he aims to facilitate the expansion of tourism in the island and provide more opportunities to achieve economic successes.
In his visit to Buruni today, the President appreciated the people-led local tourism efforts that he saw in the island, and expressed his wish to see the industry become even more established in the near future.
He pledged to provide full cooperation from the government in efforts to develop local tourism in the island. The President stated that he would seek a swift solution to the challenges the island faces including erosion and the lack of a modern jetty, acknowledging the delays faced in this particular project since its commencement during the past administration.
He further shared with the people of Buruni the recently gazetted policy that allows uninhabited islands in the vicinity to be incorporated within the jurisdiction of Island Council. He said this would contribute to increasing the island's revenue and thereby strengthen its economic standing.
