There has been a fatal drowning in Maafushi today. A person believed to be a tourist has passed away while receiving medical attention after a drowning incident.
A person discovered drowned near the reef channel in Kaafu Maafushi has passed away while receiving treatment.
Police said that they had received information of a person having drowned in the reef channel adjacent to the 'Active Sports' area in Maafushi at around 10:25 hrs this morning.
The person was transferred to the Maafushi Health Centre for immediate medical attention. However, the centre was unable to save the victim.
A person speaking from Maafushi confirmed to Mihaaru that the victim was a tourist. Police, however, have not yet released any details.
Police are currently at the scene of the incident and investigations are ongoing. Details of the incident are so far unclear.
