State prosecutors has alleged that an IED attack attempt was conspired for a Jumhoory Party assembly back in 2017.

State is pressing terrorism charges against four suspects for their alleged involvement in the planned attack.

The suspects have been identified as one Iuthisham Mohamed Saeed (Gamary, G.Dh. Madaveli), Mohamed Thasleem (Alanaasi Ge, H.A. Hoarafushi), Naasiu Mohamed (Vidhuvaru Ge, H.A. Hoarafushi) and Shiman Shareef (Riveli, H.Dh. Naavaidhoo).

After discreet trial sessions on the case, the trial proceedings was opened for public attendance on Wednesday, 08th June.

State has claimed that the suspects attempted to blast the explosive device at Maafannu Kunoozu, the main party headquarters of Jumhoory Party.

With the exception of Naasiu Mohamed, all the other suspects have denied the allegations pleading not guilty.

After the three suspects made no guilty pleas, state presented evidences against them at Wednesday's trial proceedings.

The sitting judge of the case Justice Ali Nadheem held the evidences presented by the state were applicable and sufficient for further trial proceedings.

The IED attack attempt coincides with opposition coalition activities hitting peak movement. The parties in the coalition which included Jumhoory Party, Adaalath Party and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, held regular assemblies at the venue in question during 2017.
