In the inaugural week of the International Tennis Federation's Asia U-14 Development Championship Regional Qualifying Tournament held in Vietnam, Naba Nishan of the Maldives secured victory in the women's singles category.

Facing off against Sri Lanka's Annaya Jaoni Norbert in the South Asian, Southeast Asian, and East Asian competition, Naba demonstrated her prowess by defeating Annaya in a flawless two-set match earlier today.

As the top-seeded player in the tournament, Naba asserted her dominance by clinching the final sets with a commanding score of 6-1, 6-0 against the third-seeded Annaya.

Meanwhile, in the singles division, Maldives' Manha Mohamed Ali experienced a defeat at the hands of Vietnam's Dong Ni Nguyen Angok.

The men's singles saw the participation of Adam Aal Niyaz and Mika Mohamed Kaleem. Aal, seeded third, faced a setback against Sri Lanka's Rishit Somarathna, while Mika succumbed to the challenge posed by Vietnam's fourth-seeded Tuan Pong Wu.

In the men's doubles event, Mika and Aal teamed up, progressing to the semi-finals by triumphing over Mongolia's Anand Bhatgerel and Zolbaya Ganbold in two straight sets. However, their journey ended in the semi-finals with a loss to Sri Lanka's Ashlin de Silva and Rishith Somaratna.

The women's doubles category witnessed Naba and Manha facing defeat against the duo of Annaya from Sri Lanka and Vietnam's Bin Enhien Toh.

Anticipation builds for the second week of the tournament, slated to commence on Tuesday, where four players from Sri Lanka are set to compete. The qualification for the final of the International Tennis Federation's Asian Under-14 Development Championship will be based on the points accumulated by players in the two regional qualifying rounds.
