Theft and robbery cases decline in June compared to May

Crime statistics revealed by the police show that reported cases of theft and robbery decreased in June compared to May this year, although the overall patterns of crime have observed no drastic changes.

The number of theft and robbery cases reported last month has observed a decline compared to May this year.

Statistics released by the Police reveal that in May, 335 cases of theft and 40 cases of robbery were reported. These numbers are higher compared to June, which saw 315 cases of theft and 29 cases of robbery reported.

Revealing the statistics of May and June 2024 on social platform X, Police Spokesperson Ahmed Shifan stated that it was an encouraging feat to observe a decline in theft and robbery during the month of June, despite no significant changes to overall crime patterns.

- Sexual offences: 23 cases

- Traffic accidents: 212 cases

- Assault: 47 cases

- Domestic violence: 25 cases

- Cheque bounce: 2 cases

- Theft: 315 cases

- Drugs: 175 cases

- Embezzlement: 50 cases

- Vandalism: 64 cases

- Counterfeit and forgery: 8 cases

- Robbery: 50 cases

- Lost items: 98 cases

- Sexual offences: 18 cases

- Traffic accidents: 226 cases

- Assault: 44 cases

- Domestic violence: 21 cases

- Cheque bounce: 1 cases

- Theft: 335 cases

- Drugs: 130 cases

- Embezzlement: 34 cases

- Vandalism: 60 cases

- Counterfeit and forgery: 17 cases

Although cases of theft and robbery declined in June compared to May, theft remains the highest category of reported crime in 2024 so far, with 1,891 cases.

While theft from mosques has seen an increase recently, several cases of stolen goods from mosques, such as fans, have surfaced.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, previously stated that there are 46 individuals who repeatedly engage in these offences, and he revealed that they were intercepted over 4,000 times in the past six months.

The second highest category of reported crime after theft is traffic accidents, with 1,506 cases reported to the police during the year.
