Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC), on Monday, announced special exam arrangements would be made for A level students who may test positive for COVID-19 or find themselves required to undergo quarantine during the period.
Speaking at an HEOC press conference, Deputy Minister of Education and head of the Department of Public Examinations (DPE) Mohamed Ihsan noted that efforts were underway to finalise separate arrangements for students who are able to undergo examinations even if they test positive for COVID-19.
He then elaborated that two separate exam halls were being prepared for students registered at any of the four designated exam centres in the Greater Male' Region, to be utilized in the event that a student is diagnosed with the virus or/and placed under quarantine.
The DPE head added that authorities have already compiled guidelines on special arrangements and standard operating procedures for such centres.
According to Ihsan, the remaining 33 examination halls established outside the capital region will also feature arrangements made for students who test positive for the virus or are placed under quarantine.
Deputy Minister Ihsan assured that thermal screening procedures would be enacted at all examination halls and that social distancing measures would also be established.
The school with the highest number of students partaking in the upcoming A level examinations, set to commence on October 5, is the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), which is located in Male'.
Over 470 CHSE students are scheduled to sit for their exams in the halls of Arabiyya School, Aminiya School and Iskandhar School.
Furthermore, HEOC's technical advisory group (TAG) has advised students and parents to adhere to all recommended safety guidelines.
HEOC Spokesperson Dr Nazla Rafeeq concluded noting that the ministry of education would collaborate with HEOC and other relevant authorities to arrange transportation for quarantined students required to sit for exams at separate centres.
