Another patient who was receiving treatment for influenza has passed away on Sunday night.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) revealed that the death was of a 35 year old Maldivian woman who had been on ventilator support.

The hospital's Internal Medicine Specialist Dr Mohamed Ali has earlier revealed that three patients who contracted pneumonia through influenza had been placed on ventilator support.

Statistics of the Health Protection Agency (HPA) indicate that there have been 154 cases of influenza reported in the country within the past four months. The most prevalent strain reported is H1N1.

HPA believes that the cause of the increase in the spread of influenza is the large number of persons who have travelled abroad during December's school holidays, noting that Covid and influenza cases are on the rise even in other countries in the region.

Symptoms of Influenza
