The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) and industry partners are marketing the Maldives at the Fitur 2023, in Spain.

Fitur is an international tourism fair that brings together travel agencies, wholesalers, hotels and accommodations, carriers, and leisure and cultural infrastructures for networking and seeking business opportunities. The event also attracts Spanish official organisations and travel media.

The global travel-trade event launched on 18 January, and closed on 22 January. It is hosted at IFEMA Madrid’s Recinto Ferial. This is also the first major travel-trade event MMPRC is participating in this year.

Over 41 representatives from 23 industry partners are taking part in the event alongside MMPRC to market their products, services, and experiences. MMPRC is promoting the different experiences available in the Maldives with a focus on promoting various tourism segments, which include tourist resorts, guesthouses, and hotels.

MMPRC said its objective in participating in the Fitur 2023 event is to create awareness among Spanish visitors about the products and experiences available in the Maldives while creating a platform to connect with industry professionals from the Spanish market.

MMPRC also conducted raffle draws at the Maldives’ stand during the event to give away free holidays to four lucky winners. The corporation invited both consumers and travel trade professionals to participate in the raffle by filling out a survey questionnaire. The raffle will be held on the first, third, fourth, and fifth days of the fair, with one winner selected each day.

The raffle giveaway is sponsored by some of the major tourist resort brands in the Maldives, including Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi, Sun Siyam Resorts, Brennia Maldives, and Angsana Velavaru.

Apart from taking part in the Fitur 2023 travel trade fair, MMPRC is set to conduct several other destination promotion activities targeting the Spanish market this year. MMPRC said it will also be promoting the Maldives through OOH Advertising in the Spanish market as well as through other campaigns in partnership with top tour operators and online travel agencies in Spain.

Additionally, MMPRC is expected to host media familiarisation trips for Spanish journalists and media outlets to experience the Maldives firsthand.

Spain is among the top ten markets in the Maldives in terms of annual tourist arrivals. In 2022, the Maldives Ministry of Tourism reported a total of 42,148 annual arrivals from the market.
