Teachers are undoubtedly one of the most influential social workers in the country. From the richest to the lower-most income families, people all over the country have had some form of teachings passed on to them. Teachers continue to carry a large burden of social responsibility on their shoulders.
Maldivians have expressed their love and appreciation for the teachers, made evident by the celebratory activities that were held on Thursday.
Although the United Nations mark October 5 as World Teachers day, schools in the Maldives marked the occasion throughout this week as October 5 falls on a weekend this year.
All over the country, schools decorated their premises in various themes to welcome and celebrate the day of the educator.
Aminiya School held their commemoration of Teachers Day on Wednesday, and have been holding various activities scheduled across different days.
Aminiya School’s Deputy Principal Shuvaibath Saeed stated that the school is planning various activities to value teachers, who undergo a hectic work life to ensure that children receive their right to education. The deputy principal, reminiscing on Wednesday’s sporting activities, said that the teachers and students had spent a great time together.
“The school was adorned with green and gold decorations. The dinner night is scheduled for tonight [Thursday], and a walk at dawn, with additional activities to take place,” said Shuvaibath.
Principal Ahmed Rafeeu of Baa Atoll Education Centre in Eydhafushi, stated that the teachers' were welcomed by a dance from the students of the school. Furthermore, after a special school assembly, a breakfast was organized in the morning.
The 130 teachers who work at the school were each gifted a bouquet from their students.
