President brahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, tweeted his 'deep gratitude' towards teachers on the occasion of the International Teacher's Day, celebrated every October 5th.

"Besides our parents, teachers are the ones who’ve had lasting positive impact on who we are today", he said.

In his tweet, the president thanked his past teachers as well all other educators "who continue to light the way for our young generations".

This year's teacher's day, celebrated under UNESCO's theme of 'Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future', falls amid the backdrop of the worst economic regression of human civilisation since the Second World War, as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly added to the challenges faced by already over-extended education systems throughout the world. It is no exaggeration to say that the world is at a crossroads and, now more than ever, we must work with teachers to protect the right to education and guide it into the unfolding landscape brought about by the pandemic", said UNESCO.

Teachers are undoubtedly one of the most influential social workers in the country, carrying a large burden of social responsibility on their shoulders.

From the richest to the lower-most income families, people from all walks of life have had some form of teachings passed on to them.
