The Judiciary Committee of the 20th Parliament of Maldives decided today to summon various different agencies to the committee in connection to the committee's scope of work.
The Judiciary Committee of the Parliament has decided to summon Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem to the commitee following a request by the Prosecutor General's Office to seek information about the committee's views on the country's criminal justice system.
The decision was made today following the a written request by the PG office to share information and understand the views of the committee on the subject. The decision to summon PG Shameem to the committee was unanimous.
During the meeting today, the committee also approved to summon the Criminal Court, Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) as well as the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to the committee, concerning the space constraints faced by the Criminal Court.
Additionally, the committee also moved to meet with and seek information from other government agencies relevant to the work of the Judiciary Committee. The meetings are to be held in an order determined by the committee.
The committee is chaired by MP Husnee Mubarik of Manadhoo constituency, with MP Anara Naeem of Huraa constituency as the vice chair.
Other members in the committee include MP Abdul Sattar Mohamed, MP Mauroof Zakir, MP Mohamed Shamin Habeeb, MP Ibrahim Nazil, MP Ismail Nizar, MP Mohamed Shahid, MP Ali Fazad, MP Ahmed Riyaz and MP Ashraf Rasheed.
