As per Article 44 of the Parliament Regulations, the Speaker must decide who will preside over meetings in the instance that the Speaker and Deputy Speaker are not available to do so.
It states that the consecutively longest serving five members will be appointed for the task, with priority given based on the duration of service.
Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla announced in parliament today that the members who have served for the longest duration consecutively are:
1. Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed - 19 years and 3 months
2. Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim - 15 years
3. Eydhafushi MP Ahmed Saleem - 15 years
4. Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa - 15 years
5. Mahibadhoo MP Ahmed Thoriq - 15 years
Abdul Raheem stated that voting on these names will be undertaken today.
