The current academic term will conclude on April 30, and the new academic year is set to commence on May 26, announced Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu today.
Regarding the changes to the new academic year, the Minister told Mihaaru News that during the presidential election campaign, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu visited almost all the islands of Maldives, and the highest number of requests made by the people was to change the start of the academic year.
Therefore, we have decided to make these changes according to the President's pledges, the minister said. However, instead of making the change suddenly, he said, the start of the new academic year will be altered gradually over five semesters.
The current academic year, 2023-2024, began on August 8, 2023. However, according to the earlier schedule, the academic session 2023/2024 was set to conclude on June 13, 2024. However, it has now undergone changes.
- Second Term 2023/2024 (January 7, 2024 to April 30, 2024)
- Academic Year 2024/2025 (May 26, 2024 to February 20, 2025)
- New Academic Year 2025 (March 9, 2025 to December 18, 2025)
- Annual Holiday on December, 2025
The minister said that students will be able to cover their syllabus even if the academic calendar is changed. He also added that the new calendar will be released today.
