Special Advisor to the President and the parliamentarian set to take oath for the Fonadhoo Constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has expressed certainty that he will succeed in securing the position of Parliament Speaker of the 20th People's Majlis that will be established on May 28th.

He had revealed his intentions to run for the Speaker of the Parliament during a special ceremony held at Laamu atoll Fonadhoo to celebrate his success in the parliamentary election held on the 21st of this month after securing the seat of the Fonadhoo Constituency.

Highlighting that the two natives of Laamu atoll appointed to the Cabinet of Ministers under President Dr Mohamed current administration is an event that has altered the entire history of Laamu Atoll, Abdul Raheem stated last night that the next piece of news will be an even happier one. He affirmed that the people of Laamu Atoll will be met with a much more joyous night than before.

"I will not speak of the details of this. But I am hereby concluding my speech with the happy news that with God's Will, the history of Hahdhunmathee [Laamu atoll] will be altered once again without much delay," said Abdul Raheem who is the president's most trusted companion on matters related to politics and worked hardest to secure the executive for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Speaking at the ceremony held in the connected islands of Laamu atoll following a motorcycle drive on Friday evening to celebrate his success in the polls, Abdul Raheem's son and Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal had also given his undoubted certainty that his father will rise to the seat of the Speaker of Parliament.

"After [May] 28, we will rejoice in Laamu atoll by God's Will. This is how this story will further be told. Await this, people."

The 93 candidates elected in the polling held last Sunday will take their oaths into the 20th parliamentary term on May 28. After taking their oaths, the next foremost event on the roster will be electing the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, which will be decided through a poll held between the members.

As the ruling political party, People's National Congress (PNC) had acquired super majority of the parliament for the 20th term during the polling, any parliamentarian of their choosing can be instated for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. While only Abdul Raheem has been seen publicly advocating for the position of Speaker, the parliamentarian re-elected for the Dhiggaru Constituency, Ahmed Nazim, who had served as a former Deputy Speaker is also expected to be in the list of contenders. However, Nazim has remained silent thus far.

At the decorated event filled with colorful fireworks held to commemorate the occasion of his success in securing a parliament seat for a third term, Abdul Raheem stated that the person who changed the history of Laamu atoll is President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and that therefore, he does not believe that there is an island that must work harder to maintain and persevere this administration than the particular island of Laamu atoll Fonadhoo.

Abdul Raheem had repeatedly stressed that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is the person who extended Laamu atoll Fonadhoo with a chance to establish themselves in the Cabinet. These two Fonadhoo natives at the Cabinet are Abdul Raheem's son, the Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal and the Minister of Finance, Dr Mohamed Shafeeq.

The MP-Elect for the Fonadhoo Constituency had reiterated that the reason he had made it this far in his political life is due to the people of Fonadhoo and acknowledged the support, assistance and trust offered by the residents of the island.

"Therefore, I will always remember you, even if I rise to a position, by God's Will, I will always remember you and never forget you [the people of Laamu atoll]. Only respect and love exists for you in my heart. My applaud," said Abdul Raheem who also serves as the Chairperson of the ruling party, PNC.

At the ceremony last night, Minister Faisal had also remarked that this administration will alter the history of Laamu Atoll and gave his certainty that the atoll will be developed. These developments include four resorts advanced under the "One Island" concept and transforming Gan-Fonadhoo into a city. The assurance he gave was that Gan-Fonadhoo will contest in the upcoming local council elections next year as Mayor and a member of the City Council.

During the parliamentary polls held on April 21 to elect members for the 20th parliament term, Abdul Raheem had secured his seat of Fonadhoo with a total of 1,649 votes whilst his closest competitor, Hussain Abu Bakuru of the opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had accumulated 491 ballots. Excluding the Maavashu Constituency which was secured by an MDP candidate, all Constituencies of Laamu atoll were obtained by PNC.
