In efforts to expand Maldives' tourism, a decision has been made to compile a plan for, and introduce, environmentally friendly eco tourism.
A statement released by the Tourism Ministry said that this project, included in the administration's first 14 weeks roadmap, will be conducted through the assistance of USAID.
Under this initiative, a list of locations in Maldives which offers unique natural environments and experiences will be compiled. Efforts will be undertaken to establish eco tourism facilities in these locations.
Priority will also be given to categorize tourism service providers on an environmentally friendly scale.
The Ministry said that, under this initiative, special zones will be mapped out across Maldives for eco tourism activities.
A special event is scheduled to be held tonight to inaugurate this initiative.
