Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate and incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, has said that he has nothing more to discuss with Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed regarding the upcoming presidential elections.

Speaking to the press outside the presidential palace, Muliaage after meeting with the Adhaalath Party and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) on Tuesday, the President was asked whether he would consider working with Nasheed. In response, the President vaguely said that Nasheed is also a member of the party.

"We don't have to think about just one member of the party," he told the reporters.

After his defeat in the presidential primary, Speaker Nasheed has been running a separate faction within the MDP with members who support him. He has even said he would not support President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in the upcoming elections.

Referring to Nasheed's activities, he said Nasheed cannot create a separate faction within the party and that he cannot decide to go against the party's elected candidate. He should also abide by the party's regulations, Solih said.

When asked if the two had spoken after the MDP presidential primary, the President said that they had not and that any further discussions would take place within the party's structure.

"The work that needs to be done now is for MDP to win the election," he said.
