Islanders Education Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Finland’s Oulu University to train local teachers.
Oulu University is listed among the top five academic institutions in Finland.
Under the partnership, the university will first train 15 local teachers currently employed at Finland International School Maldives, which is an affiliate of Islanders Education. After the initial training session, Islanders Education will make the opportunity available to all local teachers in the Maldives.
At the signing ceremony, Islanders Education Chief Executive Officer and the former Minister of State at the Ministry of Education, Ahmed Shafeeu, said that the lack of practical approaches in teaching courses. He assured that the programmes offered by Oulu University will facilitate practical experience for the teachers.
The Director of Oulu University Teacher Training School, Dr. Kari Kumpulainen said the programme will focus on applying the theoretical frameworks students learned in actual classroom environments.
Islanders Education said that it remains committed to providing modern teaching environments with the use of technology and state-of-the-art facilities and emphasised the importance of strengthening the technical skills of teachers, who are the backbone of the education sector.
