Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced it will begin leasing plots in Hulhumalé for heavy-duty vehicle parking through a competitive bidding process.

Parking spaces will be allocated from the heavy vehicle parking zone in the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) Hulhumalé commercial harbor. The company has decided to lease 19 plots in the area, which include:

- 3 plots for 40-foot trailers (810.75 square feet)

- 2 plots for 20-foot trailers (679.42 square feet)

- 10 plots for dumpers and heavy-duty lorries (339.25 square feet)

- 4 plots for cranes (528.04 square feet)

HDC announced that bids will start at MVR 12.01 per square foot per month and will be leased for a two-year period. The plots will be awarded in order of application, and higher bids will be given priority.

Only fully local companies that are registered with the Ministry of Economic Development will be permitted to submit a proposal. According to HDC, the vehicles that are going to be parked in the plots should have been used for commercial or industrial projects in Hulhumalé for the past three years and should be in working order. Interested parties must submit their bids before January 31; the bid would open on the same day.

The announcement comes as part of HDC’s continued efforts to solve parking issues in Hulhumalé. The corporation leased plots in bids to provide parking spots for 70 vehicles last year, while HDC has already contracted a developer to construct a parking building.
