Maldives Police Service on Wednesday stated that the suspected human remains found on the beach near the Redbull Skate Park in Hulhumalé, were most likely washed ashore.

The police were informed of human remains being found on the beach at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. After the report was filed, the police took the remains into their custody for further analysis.

An official from the police media told Mihaaru that the remains most likely washed ashore rather than being unearthed after being buried.

According to reports from people at the scene, objects that were believed to be skeletal remains were found within the garbage that floated near Hulhumalé's shores.

The police have made no official comments regarding the incident yet.

Last week, a decomposed body was discovered in a lagoon on Vaavu atoll. The remains would be sent for DNA analysis for identification, according to the police.
