The Maldives government has decided to reopen schools next Sunday after the second break amidst the viral flu epidemic spreading across the nation.

In a statement, the Ministry of Education proclaimed that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has green lighted opening the schools next week.

The ministry also assured that students will be provided with the lessons they missed.

The government had first closed all schools and universities on March 13 amidst the viral flu and colds, including swine flu, rapidly spreading in the Maldives. The Education Ministry had resumed schools last Sunday and Monday but again closed schools for the remainder of the week due to the dismally low turnout of students.

According to HPA’s latest statistics, 222 people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus as of Wednesday while six people have died of swine flu.
