Maldives' Mohamed Rihan Shiham and Mohamed Aan Hussain broke the national record while competing in the Ongoing Asian Age Group Aquatics Championships in the Philippines.

Apart from the two athletes, the men's relay team also broke the record.

Promising swimmer Rihan broke the previous record in the 100m butterfly long course event yesterday. The previous record was also held by him. At that time, he set the record at the Indian Ocean Island Games in Madagascar last year. He clocked 1 minute and 02.41 seconds at the Games to set a record of 1:1.60 seconds set in New Clark City, Philippines.

Aan broke the long course record in the 50m backstroke. He already had that record. On Sunday, he broke the record with a time of 29.51 seconds. His prior record was established at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, where he completed the race in 29.57 seconds.

Aan also shared the record of relays broken by the men's team by competing in the Long course 4x100m freestyle. Alongside Aan, the team included Mubal Azam Ibrahim, Ali Imran and Mohamed Yaman Yaasin.

The team comprising these swimmers finished the race 7.22 seconds faster than the national team's record of competing in last year's Asian Games. The swimmers who made it to the relay team for the Asian Games are Imran, Mubal, Rihan and Ahmed Neeq Niyaz. At the Asian Games in Huangzhou China, the team clocked 3 minutes and 57.16 seconds.

Yesterday in the Philippines, the Maldivian team set a record with a timing of 3 minutes and 49.94 seconds. There are 26 swimmers competing in the tournament.
