Maldivian swimmers Mubal Azam and Mohamed Rihan Shiham achieved remarkable success by breaking multiple national records at the ongoing World Swimming Championships in Qatar.

As the leading athletes in the national men's rankings, Mubal and Rihan each set new records during their performances. Mubal broke records in both the 100m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke events, while Rihan, who secured the top spot in the last national long swimming competition, set new records in the 400m freestyle and 200m freestyle categories.

Mubal surpassed his own previous record in the 100m breaststroke, completing the race in 1 minute and 14.58 seconds, breaking the record set at the Asian Games in China the previous year. Similarly, in the 50m breaststroke event, he set a new record of 33.24 seconds, surpassing his earlier record from the Indian Ocean Island Games.

Rihan's impressive performance in the 400m freestyle event clocked in at 4 minutes and 31.96 seconds, surpassing Mubal's record set six years ago. Mubal had completed the same race in 4 minutes and 48.44 seconds at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.

Rihan also claimed the 200m freestyle record by breaking Mubal's previous record of 2 minutes and 8.22 seconds, set at the Asian Games the previous year, with a new timing of 2 minutes and 6.32 seconds.
