Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) gears up to launch new training initiative for young surf enthusiasts.

Dubbed "Raalhudhaana", the first event under MSA's 'Maldives Youth Surfing Development Program (MYSDP)' will kick off on August 31 and last until September 3.

Participation in the first event under the initiative is open for young surf enthusiasts aged between seven to 17 residing in Male' City, Hulhumale' and Vilimale.

MSA reports plans to expand the initiative outside of Greater Male' region, covering other areas of the country.

The association's primary aim is to foster enthusiasm and train young surfers to become professional surf aspirants. The program will run through the assistance of certified coaches, reports MSA.

Moreover, the association is hopeful to train next generation of talented surfers to pursue professional sporting careers.

MSA also aims to endorse sustainable skill development for young surf aspirants, and maintain momentum of enthusiasm among enthusiasts of the sport. The association had earlier, for the first time ever, selected an under-18 junior national surf team as well.

Young surfers have an increased involvement in the sport thanks to Dhivehi Surf League's junior division.

Earlier, a junior division surfer enlisted by MSA for the Surf League won second spot in said division at the "Huraakolhu Raalhugandu" surfing event at Raa atoll Kinolhas. Additionally, two other junior surfers had secured ranks in the top-ten rankings of the senior surfers in the Maldives.
