The southern atoll of Gaafu Dhaalu is famous for some of the finest and heaviest waves Maldives has to offer. These highly sought after waves include 'Blue Bowls', 'Beacons', 'Love Charms', 'Antiques', ' Five Islands', 'Castaways' and 'Two Ways' as well as a variety of "secret" waves.

In December 2019, MSA hosted the 'Rannamaari Challenge' at famed wave break 'Raalhugandu' in capital city Male'. The association began hosting competitions following an approximate 5-year hiatus.
