Maldives Supreme Court on Monday issued a gag order against the owner of SeaLife Mr. Ahmed Moosa until the conclusion of his case.

This is the second time the apex court has issued a gag order, which bars government officials and senior members of the state from conversing about the defendant.

The defendant had requested from the court for such a decision after Prosecutor General Mr. Hussain Shameem in his personal twitter handle expressed distaste for the release of Mr. Moosa from remand.

In the case, the court held that unless convicted beyond reasonable doubt, all subjects have a right to be treated as an innocent member of the society as guaranteed by the constitution.

As such the court has demanded to ensure that the individual rights and liberties of the defendant is preserved in accordance to the existing laws and the constitution itself.
