The National Award of Honor in the field of journalism has been presented to Editor of Dhauru Online, Moosa Latheef.
Moosa, who first entered the field 35 years ago, was awarded the honor during the special ceremony ongoing at Dharubaaruge, Male' City on occasion of National Day.
Once the country's oldest newspaper, 'Haveeru' closed its publication on March 31, 2016, Moosa joined the subsequent newspaper introduced under the same management, Mihaaru News as its first editor. He later claimed the National Award for Recognition in 2001 and was also presented with the 'Silver Pen for Preserving Journalism' by the State to commemorate 50 years for national journalism.
The accomplished reporter, who has - and still covers countless issues of significance spent most of his career at the Haveeru newspaper. He served as the last editor of the publication, employed there until April 1, 2016.
Moosa first joined Haveeru News as a part time writer at a young age. He garnered widespread recognition for his work as a sports writer and his contributions in establishing the newspaper's sports section as the most widely acknowledge is also invaluable. Moosa also served as one of the leading figures of 'Haveeru Sports Awards' and was later active at the 'Mihaaru Sports Awards'.
A veteran who is locally renown as one of the most senior reporters in the industry, Moosa continues to hold his pen with integrity, reporting on themes of political and economic importance.
