President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday stated that the outcome of the upcoming Parliamentary Election will influence the decision made by people in the 2018 Presidential Election.
Speaking at a campaign gathering at Landhoo, Noonu Atoll, President Solih stated, "Each vote is important, and every elected parliamentarian is important. So, Saturday's decision will be very clear".
The president reiterated that the pledges made by the government would not be fulfilled should the opposition attain majority seats in the parliament.
According to President Solih, the manifesto he presented during the Presidential Elections can bring much needed development to the country.
He urged the people to consider all these factors before casting their votes.
Furthermore, criticising opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), President Solih spoke of the underlying corruption behind various projects during the previous government.
The president claimed that the previous administration had planned to award the water and sewerage projects for Hulhumale's second phase to a Srilankan company for USD 42 million.
He went on to state that the project has now been reassigned to Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) for USD 15 million.
"This is the extent of corruption in their government. Do we really want this to repeat in Maldives?", he questioned.
