Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid congratulated the newly appointed Ambassador of India to Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Shahid and Ambassador Sudhir exchanged views over ways in which the renewed dynamism in Maldives-India bilateral relationship can be sustained and further strengthened.
Minister Shahid and Ambassador Sudhir discussed the various milestones achieved from the heightened relations between India and Maldives since President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih took office in November 2018.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Maldives to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Solih. Additionally, President Solih visited India in December 2018.
Both diplomats agreed that these visits have set the tone for future engagements between the countries.
Ambassador Sudhir thanked the Minister for the warm welcome, and conveyed his commitment to working closely with the Government and people of Maldives in achieving the mutual interests of both countries.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Foreign Secretary Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed, and Director, India Division Mariyam Midhfa Naeem. Ambassador Sudhir was accompanied by Counsellor (Political) at the Embassy of India to Maldives Archana Nair, Defense Advisor Captain Prashant Handu, First Secretary Subhash Ramakrishna Pillai, and Head of Chancery Shitanshu Chaurasiya.
