The Sun brand was founded by Ahmed Siyam Mohamed, the leader of political party Maldivian Democratic Alliance (MDA), who aims to create a collection of hotel and resort brands across the Indian Ocean and Asia.
The staff of the resort welcomed their first guests on December 15. Spokesperson for Sun Aqua stated that the resort's overwater villas are designed for comfort, and that the private suites are ideal for honeymooners and individual travellers.
Dining options include an all-day dining restaurant with an international menu, a grill restaurant set on the beach and an over-water restaurant with Italian specialties.
Sun Aqua Spa has six treatment pavilions and a hydrotherapy area positioned over the lagoon as an over-water spa offering a range of treatments.
Furthermore, the resort includes an infinity pool, a fully equipped recreation centre, a kid’s club for children under the age of 11 and water sports such as Jet Ski, windsurfing and catamaran.
The resort is a 35-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport. Sun Aqua Resort Collections currently have three resorts in the Maldives, and operates another property in Pasikuda on the East Coast of Sri Lanka.
