The Malé City Council has recently established fees for foreigners visiting parks in Malé City. Starting from July 15, foreign nationals will be required to pay this fee when entering the parks.
Speaking at the Council’s weekly meeting, Council Member for South Henveiru Constituency Fathimath Shamnaz Ali said that there are different fees for foreigners entering the parks, and there may be certain situations where they are exempt from paying the entrance fee.
● Foreigners with work permits: 15 MVR per person
● Foreigners without documentation: 50 MVR per person
● Foreigners with tourist visa: 75 MVR per person
● Foreigners with cameras: 500 MVR
● Foreigners taking care of and accompanying elderly Maldivian citizens
● Foreign maids taking care of and accompanying children
● Children of foreign nationals under the age of 18
Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that there was a proposal to exempt individuals with diplomatic cards from paying the park entrance fee.
Eleven members of the Council supported the decision to impose fees on foreigners entering the parks.
During President Yameen's administration, park entrance fees were implemented for foreigners entering Sultan Park after it opened after renovations. Dr. Muizzu, who is now the Mayor of Malé City, served as the Minister of Housing at that time. However, when the new government took office, the fees were waived.
