Immigration deports 30 expats residing illegally in Maldives

Those deported on Thursday include nationals from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal.

Maldives Immigration said that 30 expatriates, including nationals from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal, who were found to be residing illegally in the Maldives, have been deported.

Immigration in a post on social media platform X, said that the expats were deported on Thursday as part of its ongoing efforts to remove illegal expatriates in the country.

"This action underscores our continuous efforts to ensure compliance with immigration laws," Immigration said.

An Immigration official who spoke with Mihaaru News said that the deportees include individuals from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, and Nepal.

Immigration has also advised all expatriates living in the country to adhere to the laws and regulations.

Immigration had earlier said that over 3,000 expatriates had been deported during their operations.

As part of its efforts to address the issue of illegal immigrants, Maldives Immigration is conducting raids on expatriate residences and workplaces.
