Imports rise by 15 percent, exports drop 5 percent in November

Total imports to Maldives, inclusive of fuel, increased by 15 percent in November 2022, reported Maldives Customs Service.

Maldives imported total commodities worth MVR 4.6 billion during review month.

Imports excluding fuel rose by four percent during November, which is goods worth MVR 3.5 billion.

However, exports dropped by five percent, which is MVR 168 million worth of commodities.

- Food items (excluding pork, alcohol, tobacco) - MVR 816 million

- Machinery and mechanical appliance - MVR 748 million

- Base metal and articles of base metal - MVR 331 million

- Mineral products - MVR 264 million

Major Importers

- Oman - MVR 761 million

- India - MVR 760 million

- UAE - MVR 594 million

- Singapore - MVR 472 million

- China - MVR 420 million

Major Export Categories

- Skipjack tuna stripe-bellied bonito (frozen) - MVR 67 million

- Skipjack tuna (prepared or preserved) - MVR 37 million

- Yellowfin tuna (fresh or chilled) - MVR 12 million

- Yellowfin tuna chunk (fresh or chilled) - MVR 11 million

- Yellowfin tuna loins (fresh or chilled) - MVR 8 million

Major Export Countries

- Thailand - MVR 59 million

- Germany - MVR 18 million

- UK - MVR 14 million

- USA - MVR 10 million

- France - MVR 8 million

Customs reported a total of 116 vessel arrivals, and 99 departures for the review month.
