Parliament approves Ambassadors to Saudi Arabia, China and Bangladesh

Ambassadors appointed include Dr. Fazeel Najeeb as the Maldivian Ambassador to China, Shiuneen Rasheed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh, and Mohamed Thaha as the Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

Parliament has approved the appointment of ambassadors to three countries today who where proposed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

They include Dr Fazeel Najeeb as the Maldivian Ambassador to China, Shiuneen Rasheed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Bangladesh and Mohamed Thaha as the Maldivian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

All three individuals had received the unanimous approval by all members of the Parliament who took part in today's vote.

Dr Fazeel has previously served as the Governor of central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), as well as as State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is an economist who has served in various posts in the Trade Ministry from 1987 to 2004.

Shiuneen serves as the Joint Secretary at the Foreign Ministry. Her name was previously proposed for the same position near the end of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's term in office, however the parliament decided at the time that ambassadors cannot be appointed at the end of a presidential term.

Dr Fazeel and Thaha had earlier contested and in the People's National Congress (PNC) primary for the 20th parliamentary election held on May 21. Dr Fazeel had contested the Fuvahmulah Central constituency seat while Thaha had contested the Holhudhoo constituency seat.
