Fisheries Ministry has reopened its call for the public to submit their applications to become members of five committees on five different types of fisheries in the country, after no interest was received during the first round.
The committees would be formed under a regulation on organising, managing and monitoring these types of fishing, and would serve as consultants on their expertise.
The ministry of fisheries on March 19 opened for interested individuals to apply for the committees to advise the ministry on the management of tuna fisheries, grouper fisheries, barracuda fisheries, sea cucumber fisheries and reef fisheries. However, no one applied during the opening period till, the ministry said.
In light of this, the ministry said they have expended the application duration until April 20.
- Positions on the Advisory Committee on the Management of tuna fisheries: A fisherman in the field of pole and line fishing
- Positions on the advisory committee on the management of grouper fisheries: One person to represent grouper fisheries and one person representing grouper exports
- Positions on the advisory committee on the management of barracuda fisheries: Three representatives representing the barracuda fisheries
- Positions on the advisory committee on reef fisheries management: Two representatives representing reef fishing, two representatives representing reef fish traders and exporters and a relevant association registered in Maldives.
- Positions on the advisory committee on the management of sea cucumber fisheries: Two representatives representing sea cucumber fisheries and two representatives representing sea cucumber exporters.
The committees’ responsibilities include monitoring the implementation of the fisheries management plan, submitting details of the plan implementation to the ministry annually and providing recommendations on the national implementation of measures to manage the fisheries industry on national and international platforms.
The members of the committee will be selected on the basis of the length of time they have been involved in the work and how long an organisation has been active in the field, if the application is submitted for a position allocated for organisations.
Those holding elective office or political party positions cannot be members of the committees, fisheries ministry said.
