National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) provided financial assistance to Ibrahim Mohamed of Thaa Hirilandhoo to replace his leg, after he had to amputate it due to serious injuries sustained in an accident.

On the 21st of March, ‘Mihaaru’ reported Ibrahim’s story, who sustained the injuries in an accident in Hulhumale’ last October. However, prior to this report, NSPA had arranged to cover most of the expenses required for the prosthetic leg.

Heena Waleed, CEO of NSPA, informed ‘Mihaaru’ that he applied for MVR 69,000 to replace his amputated leg.

“MVR 65,000 was approved on the 18th of March. The remaining money was approved today,” Heena said.

According to Ibrahim’s wife, Mariyam Nisha, a total of USD 7000 is required for his prosthetic leg. She said that since the interview was published, many people have come forward to help him as well.

Ibrahim, who returned to his island after the leg amputation, did not have any recollection of how the accident occurred or knowledge of whether it was investigated.

While justice has not been served, Ibrahim mentioned in the interview that he used to work as a boat captain and go fishing to earn money and support his family. He said that he wants to resume fishing and work independently once he receives his prosthetic leg.
